THE WAKANDA ALLIANCE
program
building the future
with the future
The Wakanda Alliance is a comic reading and comprehension workshop. It was developed to help readers explore the historical context behind Marvel's most famous African heroes - The Black Panther, T'Challa, and his sister, Shuri. We chose these titles because we understood how to connect their cultural references to the African diaspora to their curious readers. To make this connection in a educational setting was a mission worth every effort!
Through this program, we get families engaged in reading, arts, and team building activities, achieving the goal of a stronger, smarter, and inspired community.
In the second half of our first year, we were contracted to work in an after school program, and have since balanced weekend workshops and school-based activities, solidifying an engaging role in the local community and beyond!
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alliance has switched to a fully virtual workshop. Panther fans from around the world have took the opportunity to join the conversation and connect with like-minded people when it comes to Afrofuturism and expanding knowledge!
